Alston in studio
I love to paint, I'm passionate about color and the emotion it can stir in an individual.
I prefer the realism style of painting, but love to " tweak" some paintings just because it feels right for that particular piece.
Professionally I am known simply as " Alston".
When I was a young girl I had a friend , Alice, she could paint beautifully and I always dreamed of being an artist like her.
But " life" got in my way, marriage, children, divorce, career ,raising sons by myself. ( the usual things).
While I was rearing the boys I would always tell them they could do " anything" if they wanted to badly enough.
But out of the other side of my mouth I would say to my friends how much I wish I could paint.
One day my oldest son ( then a teenager) was saying he couldn't do something and I of course said you can " if you want to badly enough " to which he responded " then why don't you paint me a picture, Mom ? "
And as they say the rest is history. The next day I went and bought paint supplies and started learning to paint.
So I have my son to thank for helping me fulfill my dream of becoming an artist and enriching my life so much.
I am primarily self taught but have taken workshops from wonderful teachers like Betty Carr and Susan Sarback just to name a couple and I continue to take weekly lessons from Lois Payne..
I am a member of Oil Painters of America and Vegas Artists Syndicate.
I have won many awards and have collectors from coast to coast in America.
My work is exhibited in the Alston Fine Art Studio in Henderson, Nevada as
well as in professional buildings through out Las Vegas.
